Man, I really feel like - I know that I was really pitching Tommy. I feel like that movie was kind of, I know people say this a lot, I don’t know if I’m just saying it as a cop-out right now, but it was ahead of its time. It was before the superhero craze, it was before the darker films that came along. And also when I thought of Tommy, I said, “You know, Tommy could be a girl in the next movie.” I think nowadays they would’ve considered it but, again, I’m lucky enough to have really never had a bad experience on a movie set.
And every single movie set, Nicholas [Hammond, his co-star in Art of Eight Limbs] and I were discussing before, people come together, gel together like a family, and then the family grows and bring[s] in people like yourself that we meet through the years. It just adds more dimension to the movie. And movies don’t really ever die, because people keep watching them and reliving them. And I think that sequel is maybe in a multidimensional thing, it exists out there. But I’m excited to see what they do with it. I feel like there’s so much creativity and people really digging into how to make the superhero genre, the action genres, the big tentpole genres interesting, exciting, new, fresh, creative. So I’m really excited to see what they do with it. And just like MK 2, it’s going to be a totally different ballgame.
7 Years Later, I Still Can’t Accept 2017’s Power Rangers Isn’t Getting A Sequel
Seven years after Power Rangers (2017) hit theaters, I still cannot believe we are not getting a sequel to arguably the best movie in the franchise.
What Could Power Rangers 2 Have Looked Like If It Happened?
While there have been multiplePower Rangersmoviesthroughout the franchise’s decades-long run,the 2017 film stands out for being its only big-budget movie.While it actually came out around the same time as the superhero genre was in its prime, it unfortunately wasn’t able to stand out enough to be a box office success. However, based on Lin’s discussion of the film, it’s clear plenty of ideas were there for a potential sequel, alongside the direction and tone it would have taken in contrast to other action movies released around the same time.
Tommy Oliver’s debut as the Green Rangerwould have seemingly played out differently, as Lin expresses interest in seeing the character as a woman for the movie universe. This was also something Dacre Montgomery, who portrayed Red Ranger Jason Scott, expressed interest in during 2017, meaning it was a real possibility that could have come to fruition.The film also could have expanded its villains roster beyond Rita, perhaps introducing other familiar characters like Lord Zedd and Master Vile.
With how much confidence Lin has in what another installment could have been, it’s clear there were strong ideas being thrown around before thePower Rangerssequel was canceled. While there’s no word yet on if the franchise will ever come back to the big screen, the number of ideas prepared could lead to something in the future. For now, though, the movie will unfortunately not continue its story, despite the potential involved.
