The re-release of theSims 1 and 2has not gone according to plan, andSimspublisher EA has finally spoken up. TheSims 1 and 2were re-released to celebrate the franchise’s 25th birthday, but while they should be optimized for modern PCs, the bugs and crashes have been stacking up.

Last week, EA releasedThe Sims 25th Birthday Bundle, which collectsThe Sims: Legacy CollectionandThe Sims 2: Legacy Collectiontogether for the first time. Fans can buy the bundled games for $39.99 or choose from the classic titles at $19.99 apiece. EA released atrailercelebrating all the wacky characters from the first two releases and hyped up their return inThe Sims: Legacy Collection. However, fans have reported crashes and strange bugs since downloading the titles upon release, which led some players to wait before getting back into the nostalgia — even if some of that nostalgia comes fromEA addressing bugs.

EA Is Aware Of The Crashes And Bugs In Sims 1 & 2 Legacy Editions

The remastered games were first teased bymysterious imagesposted onThe Sims' Twitter account as they hinted at re-experiencing the early 2000s nostalgia of the first two games in the franchise. Shortly after the tease and release ofThe Sims: Legacy Collection,EA provided a short update on the issues popping up and acknowledged that fans were experiencing various issues. Some fans have had to constantly re-start their games to keep playing them or, in some cases, have found the titles unplayable.

Every Pack Included In The Sims 1: Legacy Collection

The Sims 1: Legacy Collection contains the base game and every expansion ready for Windows 10. But, it may be better to go with the bigger bundle.

The publisher didn’t have any fixes to offer and asked fans to help with their investigations on these issues by logging the various bugs they were experiencingwhile playing the re-releasedSims 1 and 2. When they will announce fixes or updates for players to download remains to be seen, but EA is on top of the issue. Each game includes the majority of the packs from the original releases of theSims 1 and 2as well, but not every pack. In the case of theSims 2: Legacy Collection, the iconicIKEA Home Stuff packis not included, probably due to licensing issues.

What Are The Known Issues In The Sims Re-Release?

The Bugs Range From Crashes To Outfits Popping Up At The Wrong Time

Over on theSimsEA forums, players recorded a host of issues with bothLegacy Collectioneditions. Random crashes have plagued some players, while others get stuck on infinite loading screens. In the case of one player, the graphics somehow looked worse on their computer than the original game with pixelated carpeting and bad lighting. Players have taken to Reddit to also complain about thebug-laden Legacy Collection. In one case, aSimsplayer nearly lost their save after making their first family.

How EA handles these bugs will determine the sales of theSims: Legacy Collection, as the point of re-releasing these games was to get not only old players to purchase them, but new players too. There are plenty ofSimsplayers who were introduced to the franchise via theSims 4and would want to check out the games that started it all. Unfortunately, a buggy launch can leave a bad taste in their mouth and keep them away from the games. It’s a shame as theSims 1 and 2are seminal games that created the life simulation genre and remain a pillar of pop culture.
