Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima Episode #10Dragon Ball Daimahas introduced its latest villain, an all-new version of Buu, fittingly named Majin Kuu. The product of amixture between a Saibaman seed and Buu, Kuu resembles more of thelittle green henchmen that terrorized the Z Fighters during the Saiyan Saga than the chaotic big pink terror. Nevertheless, the series' newest Majin arose from his cauldron with one goal in mind, to retrieve the Dragon Ball from Tamigami #1 before Goku and company can even arrive on the scene.
Despite his relatively non-intimidating appearance,Kuu wore a trademarkDragon Ballvillainous smirkwhen confronting the guardian of the Demon Realm Dragon Ball, ready for battle. Unfortunately forDaima’s new villain, however, the fight wouldn’t go exactly as planned. Following some less than appealing fight choreography on the part of Majin Kuu, the creation of Dr. Arinsu admitted defeat and retreated.

A being created for the sole purpose of being strong, yet falling short and showing little desire to keep fighting, makes for a rather interesting addition toDragon Ball’s cast. Each villain introduced in the franchisehas always been defined by their innate bloodlust and selfish desires. Kuu, however, seems to have neither of those traits, satisfied with becoming an errand boy following his defeat. IfDaimamakes the correct decisions, Majin Kuu could end up being one of the series' most interesting villains. Or he could remain the brunt of the joke.
Majin Kuu Isn’t Built Like the Traditional Dragon Ball Villain
Kuu Lacks the Typical Macho Traits of a Dragon Ball Villain
Dragon Ballvillains are tough, braggadocios, and most importantly, evil. From the days of Tao Pai Pai, to Zamasu’s zero-mortal plan, enemies have made themselves known for their diabolical aspirations. At the mention of a new Majin Buu inDragon Ball Daima, fans became excited for the series' next great villain, knowing that an enemy of such strength would pose a problem for a powered down Goku. Unfortunately for Kuu, though, he doesn’t possess quite the same level of strength as his pink counterpart.
Quickly becomingthe brunt of the joke following the fight with Tamigami #1, it became apparent that Kuu does not share the bloodlust of other majorDragon Ballvillains. The Majin says so himself, claiming that while he might not be the greatest fighter,he is a proficient singer and would be helpful in grocery shopping. Though not ideal traits for a villain, there is still a chance for him to rebound.

The 10 Best Dragon Ball Villains, According To Ranker
Dragon Ball has a very long list of villains, from Cell to Majin Buu, but which evildoers have been the most well-received by fans?
Kuu’s full arsenal of abilities is still unknown, though if he shares any traits with Majin Buu, there are more than a few different avenues to power. The first and most prominent is absorption, which Buu used to greatly increase his power once Gohan was absorbed. However, the other possibility is one that would be much more tragic, and would separate Kuu from any other villain to have been featured in the series.

Majin Kuu Could Become Dragon Ball’s First Tragic Villain
Incorporating a Tragic Villain Would Only Keep Daima Feeling Fresh
After the failure to defeat Tamigami #1, Majin Kuu’s creator, Arinsu, did not hesitate to express her disappointment in her creation. Kuu, sitting happily in the backseat, reacted like a child who had just been scolded by his mother. It hasn’t ever really been done before inDragon Ball, butDaimahas a prime opportunity to leverage Kuu’s innocence and lack of desire to fight to turn him into something of a tragic villain.
Villains that do not exude a certain bravado are rare for the franchise. If they’re missing this trait, they’re likely cut from the cloth of a Majin Buu or Janemba, who are uncontrollably evil by nature. The closestDragon Ballhas ever come to featuring a tragic villain would be Vegeta, who operated under the rule of Frieza for the sake of survival. However, Vegeta stops being a truly tragic villain when his natural thirst for violence becomes known. While he carried out the space dictator’s cruel orders, Vegeta was ruthless by nature.

Majin Kuu does not currently seem to have the makings of a villain, though with enough of a push from Arinsu,he could end up becoming one despite his goofy nature.Dragon Ball Daimahas already been a breath of fresh air for the franchise with its exploration of the Demon Realm, and incorporating a type of villain the series has yet to feature would only maintain that quality of air. Tragic heroes make for some of the absolute best in fiction, and seeing as fans are already becoming attached to Kuu,Daimawould be smart to utilize him in an all-new way for the franchise.
Keeping Kuu a Joke Would Be a Mistake for Daima
Dragon Ball Has an Opportunity to Do Something the Series Has Never Seen
Dragon Ball Daima, though an incredible glimpse into the magic and wonder ofDragon Ball, has lacked somewhat in presenting high-stakes action. Goku’s battle with Tamigami #3 wasone of the best animated the series has ever seenin a TV anime format, though while flashy, it ultimately ended without Goku breaking much of a sweat. Majin Kuu failed terrifically in his debut, but pushing the Majin to become evil despite his nature would giveDaimathe main villain it needs.
The anime’s other option is much less ceremonious, askeeping Majin Kuu as the brunt of the joke would ultimately waste an opportunityto introduce a unique threat to the series. Innocence is best in storytelling when it is lost, andDragon Ballhas yet to explore such themes in any meaningful capacity. If Kuu is truly as incompetent as his only fight has shown,Daimawould be smart to give him any other role than the clown.
