A new trailer for the upcoming season ofDoctor Whohas just dropped, teasing more of the adventures the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) will have with his new companion. Played by Varada Sethu, the Doctor’s new companion, Belinda Chandra, will join the series inthe season 15 premiere. The episode is set to debut on BBC iPlayer and Disney+ on April 12th.

Similar to thefirst trailer forDoctor Whoseason 15, this one showcases the Doctor’s determination to keep Belinda safe and get her home. It also teases there being a greater mystery surrounding Belinda, which earlier trailers touched on, too. And of course, there are plenty of madcap adventures going on, such as The Doctor and Belinda traveling back to the 1950s and becoming animated characters.

Like previous trailers, this latest one forDoctor Whoseason 15 teases a mystery around Belinda. Already, ahead of seeing any footage of season 15, viewers were curious about this new companion seeing as she’s being played by an actor who previously appeared inDoctor Whoseason 14; however, as a different character, Mundy Flynn. This isn’t the first time an actor has played one character onDoctor Whoonly to return as another, but the repeated casting does come with questions – for example, is there any relation between the two characters?

Doctor Whohas, of course, used repeated casting before. Sometimes the same actor showing up as a different character has been an integral part of the plot, as was the case with Jenna Coleman playing multiple versions of Clara Oswald. But the series has also simply reused actors they’ve liked, as was the case with Karen Gillan appearing as a Roman priestess in season 2 before joining the series as the Eleventh Doctor companion, Amy Pond. With Sethu’s Belinda, however, there appears to be a reason she looks similar to Mundy, and surely that will be a mystery for The Doctor to unravel alongside getting her back home in season 15.

Though figuring out why Belinda looks like someone he’s met before is likely going to be a major part of season 15, this new trailer also shows off what a fun seasonDoctor Whohas in store. The animated storyline may very well be a first forWho, but it’s also combined with a staple of the series in having it occur when they travel back in time to a recognizable era like the 1950s. The Doctor needing to fix a broken TARDIS is also a well-trodden storyline for the show, but it looks like season 15 will be giving it a fresh take. All in all,Doctor Whoseason 15 appears to be an installment to look forward to, so here’s hoping its central mystery is a satisfying one.
