Anaxa, on the other hand, has been a bit more secretive in the sense that they have been teased by HoYoverse but haven’t played a central role in the development of Amphoreus’ story.After a series of intense leaks, these characters have now been confirmed and detailed by the developer. Even so, some leaks are looking farther into the future, beyond the next update, and some of them even predict details aboutPhainon inHonkai: Star Rail. One of the most recent leaks of this category, which looks further down the road, mentions a new, yet unexpected playable character.

According to new information provided by the leaker known as Seele Leaks, the NPC Messenger will become playable in the future with a new design. The leak was shared in a post flagged as “Questionable” onReddit. As seen in the leak,there is not an estimation on when the Messenger will become a playable character in the turn-based RPG nor a hint at how her renewed design for this rumored playable form will look. For reference, the Messenger is an NPC memokeeper from the Garden of Recollection faction, much likeBlack Swan inHonkai: Star Rail.

Following the leaked details provided by Seele Leaks, another piece of information arose. According to a clarification shared by the leaker known as Ubatcha,a playable version of the Messenger was already being considered by HoYoverse. As seen in the leak, which was shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” onReddit, about two years ago, the developer had planned on showing how she truly looked like and that, with this reveal, she was likely planned to become playable. The leak also mentions that her appearance would be similar and that she would wear a mask inHonkai: Star Rail.

As such, there is a chance that Messenger will not become playable as was stated by Seele Leaks, but the rumors about that at least being inHonkai: Star Rail’s plans have been sustained.
Aside from the leaks themselves, there are in-game lore reasons to believe that the Messenger could be adapted into a playable character. The Messenger is a memetic entity in the game’s universe and, as a memokeeper, she can change her appearance to traverse the universe.Memokeepers leave their physical bodies and travel in the form of memories and can keep themselves concealed. With such power, they are also capable of adapting their form. With such versatility, it feels quite easy to transform the NPC responsible for theMemory of Chaos inHonkai: Star Railinto a playable unit.
Honkai Star Rail 3.3 Leaks: Cipher’s Kit Seems Unexciting But May Be Surprisingly Strong
Cipher’s gameplay kit in Honkai: Star Rail 3.3 has finally leaked and while it may seem unexciting, it may be hiding a huge potential for combat.
As such, the rumors about her having a revamped design shouldn’t seem too far-fetched. For a fully playable version of the character,HoYoverse may design the character in any way they desire, be they adjacent to the themes that pertain to the Garden of Recollection or perhaps a more secretive visual that helps the Messenger keep their identity a secret as they travel through the universe. There is a spectrum of possibilities when it comes to releasing Messenger as a playable character, both regarding design and story thanks to how little is actually known about her inHonkai: Star Rail.
Messenger May Join A Long List Of Awaited Character Releases In Honkai: Star Rail
Mr. Reca & Screwllum Have Yet To Be Released
The downside to the rumors about the Messenger’s release as a playable character is that she is joining the list of characters that are heavily rumored to be released in the futurebut with no actual release date or release window – and this is precisely what doesn’t convince me about the leak. This isn’t the first time something similar has happened. Back during the Version 1.x patches, there were rumors aboutScrewllum’s release inHonkai: Star Rail, indicating that it would happen in the near future, but so far, there haven’t been hints about him ever becoming playable.
Every so often, new rumors about Screwllum’s possible release emerge, but they are never confirmed. This happened in December 2024, for instance.
Most recently, there have been leaks about the release of the playable version of Mr. Reca.The leaks say that Mr. Reca, who is also a memokeeper, will be released during the Version 3.x patches, but his alleged release update has already been pushed back multiple times since the rumors started. HoYoverse hasn’t given any sort of indication of him becoming playable other than his distinguished character design that separates him from regular NPCs. Even so, Messenger’s release may come afterMr. Reca’s leaked release inHonkai: Star Rail.
The leaks about the release of these characters should be considered with extreme caution, as they have proven to be unreliable and are highly subject to change. There is a chance that some of these units will never become playable, depending on how HoYoverse progresses through new destinations and their respective inhabitants. As much as I’d want to see a playable version of Messenger, Mr. Reca, or Screwllum inHonkai: Star Rail, I’m not keeping my hopes up.
