The Brave and The Bolddirector Andy Muschietti responds to speculation that Robert Pattinson’s Batman may be joining James Gunn’sDC Universe. Withthe DCU’s Chapter 1: “God and Monsters” slateunderway, one project that continues to be debated about isThe Brave and The Bold, specifically when it comes to which Batman will actually be used for the DC Studios production. As there have been numerous rumors and speculations thatThe Batmanuniverse will potentially be merged into the DCU, the filmmaker behindThe Brave and The Boldis opening up more about that idea.

In a new interview withRaidoTU, Andy Muschietti opened up more about the direction ofThe Brave and The Boldmovie that is still in development at DC Studios. As there have been a lot of theories about Pattinson’s Batman somehow joining the DCU, Muschietti set the record straight (translated by@ReelAnarchy) that there will be a new actor playing the Caped Crusader:

Andy Muschietti: As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe. However, DC and Warner Bros. are moving forward with the second part of Reeves’ Batman series, which, as widely reported, is expected to release around 2027.

This means the next Batman movie will take some time before it sees the light of day. Releasing two Batman films simultaneously would be counterproductive. What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure these two films don’t conflict with each other. Regarding my involvement in the project, there are good intentions for now. They want to do the movie with me, and I want to do it as well. I’m eager to work on the film.

This comes shortly after Matt Reeves recently commented on the possibility ofPattinson’s Batman being integrated into the DCU. While adding that there weren’t any plans for it, Reeves stated at the time,“It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense,“but with Muschietti’s comments, this idea seems to be off the table completely.

What The Brave and the Bold Director’s Comments Mean For The DCU’s Batman

Based on Muschietti’s extensive response about how he will be introducing the Caped Crusader to the DCU,this should hopefully put to rest any ideas that Pattinson will be headliningThe Brave and The Boldmovie. There are also a number of key factors to take into account about why Muschetti wouldn’t want to utilize Pattinson’s Batman in his DCU film. To begin with,The Batmanuniversebegan under Reeves, and the filmmaker is a major reason the 2022 movie was such a success, and is now moving forward with sequels and other spinoffs.

It’s also worth taking into account thatthe DCU just revealed its Batman, and this Dark Knight has a completely different body build and costume from Pattinson’s Bruce in the Reeves universe. The DCU’s Batman, from a story standpoint, doesn’t match anything thatThe Batmanuniverse has set up to this point, as Reeves' continuity is also fairly more rooted and grounded in reality, while Gunn’s franchise is more fantastical. The Brave and The Boldmovie is also confirmed to focus on Bruce discovering the existence of his son, Damian Wayne, and include a Bat-Family established around him - none of which would make sense for Pattinson’s younger Batman.
