However, some superhero stories can get boring quickly, especially if thelines are drawn very plainly between good and evil. For storytellers like James Gunn, it appears to be an important, prominent theme in his projects to highlight that sometimes, things are gray, instead of simply black and white. And taking a long time hero and giving them a hero arc could certainly help to cement that idea as part of the foundation of the DCU.
On the other hand, even if this proves to be a clever trick on Circe’s part, and the character is truly evil, having it appear like they were trying to be a hero can make the eventual reveal much more engaging. Either way, it’s an interesting idea to take a villain with a consistent history of being evil, and doing something a little different.
