Years after Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) leftOne Chicago, the star is considering a potential return. Seda starred in several One Chicago series, but onlyChicago Medeluded him during his time as Antonio. Unfortunately, while Antonio played an important role in the universe,he eventually left Chicago for Puerto Rico to fight his painkiller addiction. Seda was written out of the show and went on to star in other franchises, such asLaw & Order. As a result, he has not appeared in any ofthe recentOne Chicagocrossover events. However, Antonio’s exit is not necessarily the end of his story.
In an interview withScreenRantfor his movieInto the Deep, Sedaexpressed interest in returning to the One Chicago world. He walked through his history with the franchise, his appreciation for the opportunities it provided, andhis interest in reprising his role. Check out his quote below:

Well, it’s been a few years already, huh? You know, I love the show. It was justsuch an amazing timeand just such a great show to be a part of. I think it was really the first of its kind with the spinoffs and all that. I was really fortunate to go way back with Dick Wolf to Law and Order and Homicide, which was, I think, his first crossover. When I was first offered Chicago Fire, I had no idea it would turn out to become a spinoff to Chicago PD. When they asked me, and they said, “Would you do it? Would you do a spinoff?” I said, “Sure, of course. Why not?” As actors, you’re lucky to get one, two seasons on a show, maybe three, if you’re really lucky. So, I got six out of it, six seasons, including the season with Justice. I think the show is still going. So, it was just an honor, and I was just thankful to be a part of it. I love the character, but things change, things evolve, and shows change and, for whatever reason, go in different directions. That’s where the show went. Antonio is still alive, he didn’t die. I think someone said there was an episode where the sister mentioned he was doing well in Puerto Rico. So look, as long as the show is still going,I’m willing at any time.Antonio is still alive. If they ever wanted me to come back for an episode, or come back, or whatever,I’d be totally up for it.I’ve learned to never say never.
What Seda’s Comments Mean For Dawson’s Future
Dawson Could Return To Chicago One
Since leavingChicago P.D., Seda enjoyed a significant role in the NBC science-fiction showLa Brea, which ran for three seasons. The show ended on August 18, 2025, and Seda pivoted to the silver screen, appearing in the recent movieInto the Deep(2025). However, since then,Seda has not announced any major projects, opening his schedule for a potential return totheOne Chicagofranchise. He now has ample opportunity to reappear, and his interest means that a reunion remains a distinct possibility.
Antonio Dawson leftChicago P.D.after Season 7, Episode 1, “Doubt”.
Chicago P.D.season 13is not yet confirmed, as season 12 is still ongoing. It will likely get the renewal, though the declining ratings are a worrying sign. If it is greenlit, Seda could easily find a place back on the show. After all, Antonio is still alive, so explaining his return would not be especially difficult. He was an important part of the franchise, anda return could benefit both parties.
Our Take On Dawson’s Potential Return
It Has Been A Long Time Coming
It is always a delight when old stars reappear in long-running procedurals. Many actors naturally want to move onand test the market after spending several seasons with a show, especially after playing the same character for years. Still, returns are enticing for audiences, actors, and writers alike. This universe has grown immensely since Seda left, and it would be fun to see how Antonio would react to the city changing without him there. If Seda returns toOne Chicago, it would be a huge boost for the show in a time of declining ratings.
