Marvel has finally revealed the long-awaited sequel to the fan-favorite NetflixDaredevilseries.Daredevil: Born Againfeatures returning characters such as Wilson Fisk and Karen Page, but one surprising addition is the serial killer Muse. Fans of the show have likely never heard of this character before, but comic fans know exactly who Muse is - and how Daredevil originally defeated him in the comics.

Daredevil is no stranger to fighting deranged criminals. After all, one ofDaredevil’s biggest villains is Bullseye, who is about as twisted as a serial killer can get. But whenMuse first hit the scene inDaredevil#11 by Charles Soule and Ron Garney, things were different. Muse wasn’t killing to try and take over the city or gain power.

Muse fancied himself an artist, and he wanted to show his art to the world. He believed that truth lies in art. The problem was that his art required the brutal murdering of innocent people, which eventually caught the attention ofDaredevil.

Muse Was a Frightening New Villain in Daredevil Lore

Muse wasn’t exactly hard to catch up with. An artist needs an audience, and he continually sent out the address of his latest creation. While he mostly targeted humans, he eventually escalated and killed six Inhumans that he had managed to capture, leading to the first confrontation betweenDaredevil and Muse. Despite Daredevil’s best attempts,Muse proved to be surprisingly difficult to pin down due to his superhuman agility and strength. Their first encounter ended with Muse easily escaping the Man Without Fear. It wouldn’t take long, though, for Muse to resurface.

After Muse escapedDaredevil, plenty of people thought he might lie low for a while. People thought he might take some time to plan his next artistic undertaking, but everyone was surprised when Muse suddenly attacked a courtroom, where he kidnapped two police officers, a judge, and a Councilwoman, all because they had shut down public access to his earlier blood mural. While they were saved by the timely appearance of Blindspot, Blindspot himself wasn’t so lucky and was quickly taken captive by Muse, leading to one of the darkest moments in Blindspot’s life.

Muse Brutally Took Blindspot’s Sight, Making Him a Truly Dangerous Daredevil Villain

An Attack Seemingly Inspired by the Hero’s Name

After Muse captured Blindspot, he mostly wondered about what to do with him as he showed him his various art pieces around his base. Muse simply wasn’t sure what he should do with Blindspot, and it was only when Daredevil burst into the room that he was suddenly struck with inspiration. Instead of letting Blindspot go or even killing him, Muse simplyused his incredible physical strength to shove his fingers through Blindspot’s eyes, seemingly blinding the young hero forever, much to the horror of Daredevil. What followed was a swift fight between Muse andDaredevil.

But of course, Muse didn’t stay locked up for long.

While Muse tried to escape Daredevil, hoping to distract the hero by putting some hostages in danger, Muse’s crimes caught up with him. He was stopped by the Inhuman military, who brought him in for the crimes of murdering six Inhumans. And so Muse’s story seemingly ended. After all, he was in an incredibly advanced prison that was guarded by people with superpowers. But of course, Muse didn’t stay locked up for long. After theKingpin became mayor of New York Cityand created laws against vigilantes, Muse was inspired.

Muse returned to New York City after easily breaking out of the Inhuman prison and once again began making works of art, but these were in “support” of the superhero community. The heroes' fight against Wilson Fisk’s tyrannical rule of New York inspired him. Each mural was dedicated to a hero, but when he murdered several police officers and used their blood in his mural of the Punisher, it only emboldened Fisk further, who used it to push his anti-vigilante narrative.

Muse Ended His Own Life When Beaten by Blindspot

Daredevil#600 by Charles Soule, Ron Garney, Matt Milla, and Clayton Cowles

While Muse had been in prison, Blindspot hadn’t simply been learning how to live with his new blindness. While he tried to get some training from Daredevil, he simply didn’t have the extra sensory abilities that Matt did. Blindspot instead tried to find another option to regain his sight, bringing Blindspot to the Hand, where he made a deal with the Beast to regain his sight in return for servitude. With his sight returned and Muse once again loose in the city of New York, Blindspot decided to confront Muse one final time.

In this brutal confrontation between the two, Muse easily slapped Blindspot around and was completely dominating the fight. Only when Blindspot gave into the powers of the Beast was he able to get the upper hand. WithMuse thoroughly defeated and not willing to go back to prison, he simply walked into a burning building and died. It seemed like the last time Muse would ever be seen, as the comic makes it very clear that he really did die. There was nothing left of him but a burnt skeleton - but it seems like Muse still isn’t done.

It has just been revealed inDaredevil: Unleash Hell#1 by Erica Schultz and Valentina Pinti thatafter Muse was killed, his soul was sent to Hell. This fate isn’t very surprising, considering what a monster he was in life, but what is surprising is that Muse doesn’t intend to stay in Hell. His spirit has managed to find a young artist by the name of Morgan. While Morgan’s backstory is currently unknown, Muse pushes her into murdering her art teacher, which seems to inspire her to follow in the deranged artist’s footsteps.

Daredevil Is Bringing Back His Most Controversial Suit: Here’s Why

Daredevil gets ready for the next chapter of his life and as he heads into the future, the Man Without Fear brings back a blast from the past.

Daredevil has fought so many terrible villains over the years, but Muse is an entirely different level of deranged. Even more concerning is how Daredevil never actually defeated Muse himself. The only time Muse was captured was due to the Inhumans stepping in to help Daredevil. Muse was ultimately killed not because of Daredevil, but because Blindspot was able to use demonic power to defeat Muse. Now, it seems that Muse has returned from the grave in the comics, andDaredevilwill have to face this foe that he’s never beaten on TV as well as in the comics.
