Summary
X-Men heroesCyclops,WolverineandColossusget a new, matching look in creative fanart that takes a unique approach to the Marvel heroes. The X-Men have long had some of themost colorful and variable costumesin Marvel lore, with Xavier dressing his students in order to establish a link betweenhomo superiorand superheroism in the public imagination. At other times, the X-Men have been forced to go more low-key, able to blend into a world that hates and fears them. However, this new redesign allows the mutant heroes to take their rightful place as the protectors of tomorrow.
In amazing art bythewarblazer, Cyclops and Wolverine stand side by side wearing black and red costumes. While Logan (drawn at his comic-accurate height) has confined his design to his jacket, complemented by a plaid shirt and black trousers, Cyclops goes for a futuristic tabard, with the red highlights perfectly matching the energy of his optic blasts.

Following fan reaction to the initial art, thewarblazer also posted a solo design sheet for Cyclops, as well as adding the steel-skinned Colossus to the original art (below.) Colossus gets an even more ambitious red and black costume, with cutouts referencing his classic costume inX-Mencomics. Each character’s costume is detailed withthe hero team’s iconic ‘X’ logo.
X-Men Names 2 Iconic Heroes the New Pillars of the Franchise (Replacing Professor X)
With the X-Men having permanently rejected Charles Xavier, two very different (but equally iconic) mutants rise to take his role as mutant leader.
Wolverine, Colossus and Cyclops Get Fashionable Redesigns in New Fanart
The X-Men Franchise Has Gone Back and Forth on Matching Costumes
X-Men has varied its costumes over the years, with some eras like Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’sNew X-Mengiving the team matching costumes, and others (like the recent Krakoan Era) essentially giving everyone their own look, vaguely bound together by an ‘X’ belt buckle. thewarblazer’s art leans into the former, giving the X-Men a futuristic, somewhat arch look, taking them beyond ‘superhero’ aesthetic and into their unique mission as protectors of the next evolution of the human race.
The Iconic Artist’s Costumes Never Truly Appeared in the Comics
This vision of monochrome X-Men with plenty of black brings to mind Alex Ross' designs for the team, with Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler,Wolverine and more getting incredibly stylish costumes. Sadly - while these looks were included in Marvel’sMillennial Visions: X-Men- they only appeared as illustrations alongside a text story, and they’ve yet to appear in a traditional comic story despite being popular among fans.
Indeed, the enduring popularity of Ross' redesigns and fan reaction to thewarblazer’s amazing fanart should get Marvel thinking about how good X-Men likeWolverine,CyclopsandColossuslook in these two-color costumes.

Cyclops
Cyclops, a.k.a. Scott Summers, is the X-Men’s core team leader and one of the first characters to appear in the franchise. As a human/mutant hybrid, Cyclops has the power to launch massive bursts of energy from his eyes that are regulated through the use of a specially designed visor. Despite his calm and collected demeanor, he tends to lose it when in the presence of a fellow team member, Wolverine.
