WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from The Penguin finale. The question of how significant The Penguin’s role inThe Batman - Part IIwill be gets an interesting answer from Colin Farrell as he discusses the upcomingDCsequel. As Matt Reeves’The Batmanuniversegot fleshed out on the small screen throughThe PenguinTV show, Oz Cobb’s power has grown, making him a more dangerous player in the franchise. WhileThe Penguinseason 2 may not have been greenlit, the world will not have to wait too long to see Farrell’s take on the famous Batman foe again.

In a new interview withThe Hollywood Reporter,Farrell stressed that"I haven’t even read a script yet"forThe Batman - Part II, despite Reeves having revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this summer that Oz would be back for the sequel. However,Farrell revealed toTHRhow many scenes he has been told he will be inThe Batman - Part II, while also adding that he is signed up for the trilogy:

Oz/The Penguin (Colin Farrell) smirking at Sofia in The Penguin Season 1 Ep 8

Colin Farrell: Not really. I certainly don’t expect anything. I signed up for three Batman films, but I didn’t know if I’d be in the second film. Matt Reeves is a brilliant writer and an extraordinary filmmaker, and what I’m most excited-slash-nervous about in the second film is not what Oz does — or what predicaments he finds himself in, or what moments of success he gets to experience — but what his voice is. How is his personality? It was forming and changing in the limited series, and, by the end of the eight episodes, it’s concretized into something else. There is a degree of almost delusion psychopathy present in the last scene. So how is that taken up in the second film? I was told I have five or six scenes. I don’t have any hopes or any expectations. I’m really an open book, and that’s the way I get excited by s**t or not. I think sometimes actors, if they have a career that has a certain length of time, they sometimes get to make too many decisions. Which isn’t to say I won’t push back or argue or fight in Oz’s corner — I do believe I know him better than anyone now.

What Colin Farrell’s Filming Comments Mean For The Batman - Part II

Based on Farrell’s latest update onThe Batman - Part IIin terms of his participation,it sounds like he may not get the script until the end of this year or early 2025. Since Reeves' sequel hasn’t started casting yet,The Batman - Part IIscriptmay not go out to the returning cast members once they have their new stars attached, too. However, even if he doesn’t know the plot details, it is interesting to note that Farrell has been given an idea of how much he will be shooting in 2025.

Based on the notion that Oz will be at least in five or six scenes - assuming that the final draft doesn’t change that - it definitely sounds like The Penguin will have a sizable role in the sequel, giving Farrell a lot to do inThe Batman - Part II. Given howThe Penguinfinalesaw Oz grow as a criminal figure,it will make things even more fascinating when he and Batman are going to be put against each other again. It would also be intriguing if The Penguin ended up being involved with a new villain inThe Batman - Part II, if Reeves is indeed planning to introduce another foe from the comics.

While it makes sense to have Farrell signed on to be part of bothThe Batman - Part IIcastand a third sequel, time will tell if Oz ends up being the primary antagonist in either of those DC films. It seems likely the sequel will at least explore the aftermath of the character’s spinoff show, since the events tie into the power structure of Gotham itself.
