As she leads the Avengers against the iconic aliens ofAlien, there’s a possibility that Carol Danvers becomes the Marvel Universe’s equivalent of Sigourney Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley. Comparisons between the two characters have already circulated for a while,with Jamie McKelvie’sCaptain Marvel#25 cover as part of the “Marvel vs Alien” variant series highlighting their similaritiesand appreciation for cute cat sidekicks in an homage to Ridley Scott’s firstAlienfilm. Like Ripley in James Cameron’s 1986 sequelAliens, Carol will go into battle with a team in an attempt to stop the Xenomorphs once and for all.
With Weaver and her legendary character unfortunately missing from the last few entries in theAlienfranchise, it’s cool to cast Carol as an older woman furiously fighting against the frightening creatures in Hickman and Ribić’s series. Captain Marvel also has plenty of experience battling the Skrulls, which will come in handy, asa hybrid between that species and the Xenomorphshas already been teased.
