Warning: SPOILERS for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #15

Chapter #15 of theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga series gave fans a shocking revelation about the true power of the series’ deuteragonist. As Naruto’s son informs his former teammate, Kawaki, about his need to become stronger, he also states that Amado has been hiding his true power from him. If Kawaki wishes to become his most powerful self, he will need the scientist to remove his limiters.

This revelation, while interesting in terms of developing the Uzumaki’s adopted son, hints at the series returning toone of its most polarizing tropes.Kawaki’s new power-up will not come from training like fans expected, but from scientific methods, as happened several times throughout part 1 of the story.

Kawaki’s Next Power Up Will Not Come From Training

The Series Will Gift Him His Powers Once More

During the final pages of chapter #15 of theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga, the protagonist and his bitter rival have a simple talk about the future. During the conversation, the Uzumaki heir revealed that neither he nor Kawaki were ready to fight against Jura. If they hoped to have a chance of defeating the leader ofthe still-expanding group of Sentient God Trees, the ex-Kara member would need Amado to remove his limiters. As explained by Boruto,Kawaki is still being controlled by the scientist, who has locked behind his safety protocols several of his abilities.

This means that once these restrictions are lifted, the adopted Uzumaki will increase his overall abilities several times. When Two Blue Vortex began, fans wondered how the manga would manage to raise Kawaki’s level to that of Boruto’s, asthe two were in completely different leaguesduring the first few chapters. Yet, gifting the former an unearned power-up does not seem to be the correct way of equalizing the field for the duo’s inevitable final battle. The series is returning to one of the tropes that fans criticized the most from its predecessor.

Boruto mocks Kawaki, asking him if he trained at all in 3 years.

Boruto Used Science and Otsutsuki as an Easy Plot Device

Ninja Tools and Karma Marks Made Getting Strong Much Easier

Unlike theNarutomanga, which inspired readers to become better by training and working hard, theBorutoseries has often been critiqued forhow easily its characters became stronger. For example, one of the methods in which the advancements of the Shinobi World were depicted was the revolutionary Ninja Tools. These pieces of equipment were used to facilitate the use of powerful Jutsu or increase the battle capabilities of the user. Despite being outstandingly useful, these tools gave the series’ characters a massive boost in power without having earned it.

Although Boruto and Kawaki did not regularly use Ninja Tools, they were granted another, much more powerful advantage: the Karma marks. These tattoo-like seals containthe power of the ancient Otsutsuki clan, as they were supposed to be used to help Momoshiki and Isshiki overtake Naruto and Kawaki. Still, after conveniently finding ways to prevent the aliens from possessing them, Boruto and Kawaki could use the abilities granted to them without any danger. Most of the time, the characters in part 1 of the manga did not deserve their power-ups, as they did nothing to acquire them.

Two Blue Vortex Did Great With Boruto’s Growth But Is Now Taking a Step Back

Giving Kawaki a Free Boost in Powers Goes Against the Progress of The Series

Throughout theTwo Blue Vortexmanga, fans have seen a new Boruto, one that hastrained hard to become one of the world’s best ninjas. Not only is the protagonist able to easily defeat most regular shinobi, but he can also dominate enhanced individuals like Code and Hidari. Despite having used Prescience, a special ability given to Kashin Koji when he was implanted with cells fromthe ominous godlike Shibai Otsutsuki, to know what techniques to practice, he achieved this on his own merits. Showing Boruto having to work for his power was an amazing step in the right direction.

What is occurring with Kawaki is the complete opposite, as he is once again being granted a massive power boost just because of his importance to the plot. In chapter #9 of the manga, Boruto goes as far as to mock Kawaki for allowing himself to get weaker by not training and relying on the power of his Karma. That brilliant comment has now been made irrelevant, as the ex-Kara member will likely reach his former teammate’s level by doing nothing.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortexis still in its initial stages. The series could still rectify its mistakes in future entries, preventing more characters from becoming overpowered just due to plot necessity. Regardless, the story of the series is undoubtedly one that has managed to capture fans and has demonstrated massive potential to become a new shonen classic.
