Apple TV+’s award-winning black comedyBad Sistersreturned for a second season in late 2024, but will the Sharon Horgan series be renewed for season 3? Developed for the small screen by Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer (based on the Flemish seriesClan), the show concerns the Garvey sisters who find themselves in the middle of an insurance investigation when one of their abusive husbands turns up dead. As witty as it was dark and brooding, the debut season was one of the crown jewels of streaming TV in 2022. This necessitated a renewal, with the main cast returning.
Season 2 ofBad Sistersis an entirely different beast, catching up with the Garvey clan in the aftermath of John Paul’s death, and exploring how they handle getting away with murder. This doesn’t mean the sisters have gotten away unscathed though, and the past has come back to haunt them in the most sinister ways. With new wrinkles being added, and the tension continuing to escalate, it’s clear thatBad Sistershas the opportunity to expand pastthe murder of John Paul. However, Apple TV+ has yet to renew the series for a third season.
An Uncertain Update From Sharon Horgan

With the sophomore season of the Apple TV+ hit in the books, the latest news arrives in the form ofan uncertain update from creator Sharon Horgan.Bad Sistersseason 2 might have been one of the most anticipated follow-ups in the streamer’s history, butHorgan isn’t sure that a third outing will ever happen.Referring to the characters, Horgan said “you have to believe that they can be in that situation again,” meaning realism is key. Since the characters are the center of the story,Bad Sisterscouldn’t take theBeeforWhite Lotusroute and become an anthology.

“You have shows like White Lotus, and I guess Beef is doing it, where you may start again with a whole new cast, and so you can go for it. But with these sisters, you have to believe that they can be in that situation again. Because the reason why the show works is because people believe their situation, and we could do what we wanted this time around, because it’s all the fallout of what happened in the first season,”
“I’m thinking all the time, and let’s see what happens. But that’s the tricky thing of it. You’ve got to really, really believe it could happen to these women again.”
Apple TV+ Hasn’t Ordered More Episodes Yet
Even thoughBad Sisterswas the surprise smash-hit of 2022, it hasn’t quite earned a blank check from Apple TV+ yet. What that means is thatthe series likely won’t score a season 3 renewal until thelong-term streaming data can be assessed. ThoughBad Sistersseason 2 no doubt proved to be a fitting continuation of the Sharon Horgan success, critical reception only goes so far in the film and TV business. As Apple TV+ continues to deliver massive hit after massive hit,Bad Sisterssuddenly has much stiffer competition.
If there’s no story there,Bad Sistersseason 3 may never even be a possibility.
Another factor to consider is whetherBad Sistersseason 3 is even necessary at all. While that’s never stopped shows from being dragged back out again and again for more seasons, a creative gem likeBad Sistersis dependent on a strong story and enthusiasm from its creators. If there’s no story there,Bad Sistersseason 3 may never even be a possibility. Sharon Horgan has said as much in recent interviews, putting believability above all when it comes to her series.

Will The Garveys Return Again?
The fate ofthe characters ofBad Sisterschanged dramtically by the end of season 2, and one of the main five sisters won’t be back. Grace’s death in season 2 means Anne-Marie Duff likely won’t be back (except perhaps in flashback) but her sisters should all return.Series co-creator Sharon Horgan, plays the eldest sister, Eva,should be joined by overworked mom Ursula (played by Eva Birthistle).
The second-youngest Garvey sister, Sarah Greene’s eye-patch-wearing Bibi, is also expected back, as is the youngest of the clan, Becka (played by Eve Hewson). The supporting cast is exponentially more expendable, and depending on what direction season 3’s story takes, may be comprised of brand-new characters as well. However, until more information is made available, it’s safest to assume that the Garvey sisters will comprise the main cast ofBad Sistersseason 3.

This leaves the show in limbo, especially after it was established thatthe law was willing to overlook the Garvey’s indiscretions because of how evil Ian really was.
