The subplot in question involves Ambessa Medarda, the mother of Mel who was introduced in the latter episodes ofArcaneseason 1. InArcaneseason 2, episode 3, the show outlines exactly what Ambessa desires in Piltover: Hextech weaponry. Ambessa is ambushed by a powerful witch, one who states she wishes to settle a debt that links to the death of Ambessa’s son. The witch states she will not allow Ambessa to acquire Hextech, attempting to kill her before being destroyed herself.

Overall, it is hard to see Ambessa’s confrontation with the witches coming to a head inArcaneseason 2. After all, it is fairly removed from the conflict between Vi and Jinx as well as the class war brewing between Zaun and Piltover. Aside from the Hextech connection, Ambessa’s storyline seems more disconnected and, thus, could be the possible foundation ofArcane’s first spin-off.
Through Ambessa, the kingdom of Noxus - and the severalLeague of Legendscharacters it contains - could be further explored…

In an exclusive interview withScreen Rant, Arcane’s co-creator Christian Linke hinted that some ofArcane’s characters will be the basis of spin-offs. With Ambessa’s storyline in mind, it would make sense for her to be one of those characters. Through Ambessa, the kingdom of Noxus - and the severalLeague of Legendscharacters it contains - could be further explored. While it remains to be seen howArcaneseason 2’s final two acts continue Ambessa’s story, the potential basis of a spin-off has already been established.
