New streaming data reveals that Apple TV+‘sSeverancehas triumphed over a very popular Netflix show. Created by Dan Erickson,the sci-fi mystery series stars Adam Scott as Mark Scout, an employee at Lumon Industries who has had his work memories surgically separated from his personal ones. After an acclaimed first season in 2022,Severanceseason 2premiered on January 17, earning glowing reviews and jumping to the top of Apple TV+’s top 10 as it continues to reveal more about what exactly is going on inside Lumon.

There are some important caveats here. Reelgood, for example, doesn’t include specific viewership figures in its ranking, but Netflix data reveals thatThe Night Agentseason 2, specifically, has generated 13.9 million views from January 23 – 26 (data from the 26th onwards isn’t available yet).Reelgood bases its ranking on “the monitoring of 20 million monthly viewing decisions” from users in the U.S., but how it gathers data will differ from Netflix, which calculates total views by dividing hours viewed by a title’s runtime.
That means that there are far more hours ofThe Night Agentfor viewers to consume than hours ofSeverance, but the Apple show still won.
Despite the limitations in the data,Severance’s victory is still a notable one, and it speaks to just how much of a phenomenon the show has become. OnRotten Tomatoes,Severanceseason 2 has a 98% critics’ score and an 81% audience score compared toThe Night Agentseason 2’s scores of 82% and 41%, and the sheer quality of the Apple show is undoubtedly a key factor in its success.
