Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Horizons episode #85Pokémon Horizonshas finally seen its heroes set foot in the legendary land of Laqua, the Pokémon Paradise which they’ve been searching for for most of the series. While a major battle for control of the area still lies ahead, what does this mean for the series as a whole?
Pokémon Horizonsbegan with the mystery of Liko’s pendant, and solving that mystery led to a new one: returning Terapagos to Laqua. To do that, Liko and Roy had to travel the world, gatheringthe Pokémon known as the Six Heroes, who would lead the way to Laqua. With that goal finally accomplished a few episodes ago, Liko and Roy were able to track down the location of Laqua, a land atop a high mountain, hidden away in a crater at its summit. Of course, their nemeses, the Explorers, also followed them there, and the Explorers have their own plans for Laqua which could spell disaster.
Is Pokémon Horizons Heading Into Its Final Battle?
The Confrontation Between the Rising Volt Tacklers and the Explorers is Coming to a Head
In episode #85, Liko, Roy, Dot, and Friede hiked up to the summit where Laqua was hidden, and laid eyes upon the serene beauty of this paradise-like land for themselves. They saw several Legendary Pokémon, as well as Pokémon living in peace with their natural rivals and even predators. However, the Explorers were following behind,including the big boss, Gibeon, who has yet to take any direct action himself–before now. The Explorers are seeking to exploit a natural resource in Laqua, the Laquium, a substance capable of extending life and empowering Pokémon far beyond their normal levels.
The next episode is entitled “The Rising Volt Tacklers Vs. The Explorers,” suggesting that the confrontation between these two groups is imminent. The following episodes share titles which indicate the conflict will likely continue, but there’s no clue as to how long it might be. While there has been no official word about Pokémon Horizons coming to an end, this clash between factions seems like it could be the final battle.
Could Pokémon Horizons Continue After Laqua?
Pokémon Horizons May Be Moving Into a New Phase
IfPokémon Horizonsdoesn’t end with this confrontation in Laqua, it could be the start of a whole new arc for the series. There aren’t any clues at the moment as to what the next arc could be about; all the important pieces (such as Liko’s pendant, or Roy’s Ancient Poké Ball) have already been played, and the heroes have no goal after Laqua right now. The confrontation itself may prove illuminating, offering the Rising Volt Tacklers a new goal, such as stopping the Explorers.
In the Game Freak Teraleak, it was said in the plans forPokémon Horizonsthat arriving in Laqua would represent the midway point. If that’s still true, there could be plenty ofHorizonsleft ahead, but there’s good reason to think plans have changed since then. IfPokémon Horizonsis at its end, fans may hear about the next phase of the anime at Pokémon Day 2025.
