Warning: This article contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Summary
I would love to see Ryan Reynolds return to theMCUafterDeadpool & WolverineinThor 5, especially since the Phase 5 movie teased a connection between Deadpool and Thor.Deadpool & Wolverinebrought Reynolds' Wade Wilson into the MCU for the first time ever, opening the door for him to appear in more projects in the MCU’s future. I loved the references made to the wider world of the MCU, particularly one long-running gag that built a bridge between Deadpool and Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder.
I was expecting Deadpool to join the MCU permanently at theend ofDeadpool & Wolverine, so I was a little confused when this didn’t happen. However, establishing Fox’s X-Men Universe as another reality in the MCU’s multiverse means this can still happen in the future, and, given Thor’s tumultuous recent adventures, I think bringing him and Deadpool together would be a brilliant choice.Deadpool & Wolverinehas only solidified my belief in this idea, so it would be great to see the Merc with a Mouth pop up inMarvel Studios' as-yet-unconfirmedThor 5.

Deadpool & Wolverine: 100 Marvel Easter Eggs & References Explained
Deadpool & Wolverine quite literally has over 100 different Easter eggs, references, and cameos galore. Here are all the ones we found.
Deadpool Should Be Involved In Thor 5 After Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine Made Many References To The God Of Thunder
Chris Hemsworth has currently been given more solo MCU movies than any other character in the franchise, and this is set to continue withThor 5. This movie hasn’t yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios, but I’m one of many who want to see Thor redeemed after adisappointing stint in 2022’sThor: Love and Thunder. AfterDeadpool & Wolverine, introducing Deadpool into Thor’s MCU story could help to bring about a new tone, a fresh perspective and an exciting new adventure for the God of Thunder.

Cameo
This is, of course, informed by the scene inDeadpool & Wolverinewhich sawThor crying over a dying Deadpoolin what Mr. Paradox describes as"a distant future.“Archive footage from Loki’s death inThor: The Dark Worldwas used for this scene, butDeadpool catching a glimpse of his future with Thor prompted him to mention Hemsworth’s Avenger several times throughoutDeadpool & Wolverine. It’s clear that Deadpool and Thor will be connected in the MCU’s future, and I reckonThor 5is the best place for this to be realized.
Thor & Deadpool’s Marvel Comics History Explained
Deadpool & Thor Have Crossed Paths Many Times In Marvel Comics
Deadpool & Wolverine’sThor references weren’t completely random, as there is precedence for Deadpool and Thor to join forces in the pages of Marvel Comics.Thor and Deadpool have crossed paths many times in the comics, and this has often led to the pair engaging in battle with each other, as Deadpool’s constant jabbering and joke-cracking is a huge annoyance to the God of Thunder. Thor usually bests Deadpool in these instances, though the Merc with a Mouth has been known to take down Thor, particularly during 2011’sDeadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.
5 MCU Deadpool Crossovers That Really Need To Happen (& Will They?)
Ryan Reynolds is making his way to the MCU as Deadpool, creating the perfect opportunity to play out some brilliant Marvel Comics crossover stories.
Deadpool’s solo 2012 run by Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and Tony Moore featured several meetings between Deadpool and Thor, beginning in the series' first issue, which saw the pair defeat a giant monster in New York together.Thor has also killed Deadpool many times, but the antihero’s regenerative ability means he always revives himself, even when Thor and Luke Cage tore him in half to separate Deadpool from the supervillain Madcap. I’d love to see some of these brilliantDeadpool stories adapted for the MCU, andThor 5poses the perfect opportunity.
Deadpool Can Help The MCU’s Thor Franchise Get Back On Track
Deadpool Captures Comedy & Drama Perfectly - & This Works Well For Thor
There has been some dispute over what toneThor 5should use to continue Chris Hemsworth’s MCU story.ThorandThor: The Dark Worldwere darker and more serious, and were criticized for that, whileThor: Love and Thunder’scomedybecame a problem in Phase 4. It seems thatThor works best when mixing together these serious and humorous tones, which was showcased brilliantly inThor: Ragnarok, one of my favorite MCU movies. Introducing Deadpool, who also walks this line between comedy and drama, intoThor 5could re-establish this tone for Thor.
Chris Hemsworth’s MCU Return Comments Have Me Worried About Marvel’s Plans For Thor 5
Chris Hemsworth has shared new comments on whether he will return for Avengers: Doomsday and Thor 5, and his reveal makes me nervous for Thor.
I’ve spotted many deep and meaningful moments inDeadpool’s movie historythat are enhanced by the overt comedy that comes with the character. Thor would benefit from getting in on this action.Love and Thunderwas missing these moments of emotion, exposure and vulnerability, so Marvel Studios should learn its lesson and bring back what worked so well inRagnarokforThor 5. For this reason, I would love Deadpool to be included inThor 5, even thoughLove and Thunderalready set up a great storyline for the upcoming movie.
Brett Goldstein’s debut asHercules inLove and Thunder’spost-credits sceneteased a battle between him and Thor, but this fight can still be featured even with Deadpool’s involvement. Both Deadpool and Thor have battled Hercules in Marvel Comics. Ryan Reynolds’Deadpool could beginThor 5in opposition to Thor, but the movie could see the pair battle Hercules together, bringing them closerand eventually leading to the scene fromDeadpool & Wolverine. Deadpool’s stellar reputation and huge popularity would bring some much-needed love back to the MCU’sThor franchise.
Thor: Love and Thunder’spost-credits scene is one of many that Marvel Studios hasn’t yet paid off, so resolving this inThor 5would be a very good idea.
Where Else Could Deadpool & Wolverine’s Thor Scene Happen In The MCU’s Future?
Deadpool & Thor Could Meet In A Number Of Upcoming MCU Projects
While I would love for Deadpool and Thor’s friendship to start to blossom inThor 5, it’s unclear exactly when this unconfirmed movie will actually release. There are several empty slots open in the MCU’s Phase 6, but I think it’s likely that Thor and Deadpool will meet for the first time in eitherAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Wars. These movies, directed by the returning Russo brothers, are expected to converge the different realities of the MCU, including Thor’s Earth-616 and Deadpool’s Earth-10005, so it makes sense thatDeadpool & Wolverine’sThor scene would happen here instead.
Marvel Studios confirmed the Russo brothers would return to directAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Warsat SDCC 2024, which will also feature Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU, only as Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man.
Indeed, themassive success ofDeadpool & Wolverinecould also convince Marvel Studios that sequels to Ryan Reynolds' first MCU movie are necessary.Deadpool & Wolverinehad the biggest opening weekend of any R-rated movie in history, and have continued Deadpool’s spin as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. It makes sense to me that Marvel would capitalize on this, and furtherDeadpool & Wolverinesequels could easily feature more MCU heroes, including Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
