Android #16 was introduced intoDragon Ballover 30 years ago, and played a major role in the fan-favorite Cell Saga. Only the second of the arc’s fully artificial androids, #16’s death acted as the final push Gohan needed to achieve his Super Saiyan 2 form, allowing Earth’s heroes to score the ultimate victory over Perfect Cell. While it’s long been established that #16 was based on the son of Dr. Gero, fans have never been able to get a full look at his original human form.

That is, until now. Fans have shared their own takes on the human named Gevo for years, but with no official outline to follow, all cracks at the character have been purely based on speculation. However, in the newly released Volume #24 ofDragon Ball Super, series' artist Toyotarouincluded the first full official illustration of the character.

Toyotarou Shares the First Illustration of Android #16 as a Human

Android #16 Was Heavily Based on Dr. Gero’s Son

An elite Red Ribbon soldier in his lifetime, the first look at Gevo showcases the character in his uniform, holding a weapon. He’s nearly identical to Android #16 in every way, only lacking the bulky, muscular build of the Android that was created with his likeness. Gevo was killed by an opposing soldier in battle, and his father, Dr. Gero used his image to create Android #16, the only android made with a gentle demeanor.

After a Long Wait, Dragon Ball Super Updates Its Heroes' Power Levels, Revealing a Shocking Tie

With many new forms having been obtained recently, the time for a shakeup to Dragon Ball’s power ratings is here, and the results are surprising.

Gevo was initially briefly shown in 2022’sDragon Ball Super: Super Hero, but only his face was visible, which showed no discernible difference from #16. It’s unknown whether the human shared the android’s gentle nature, though given his major role in the Red Ribbon Army, it’s unlikely. It is possible he shared an affinity for bird watching, though.Dragon Ballis brimming with unexplored lore, and the latest expansion on an established bit of its story comes in the reveal of Android #16’s human form.

Toyotarou Has Recently Focused On Dragon Ball Lore

The Artist Has Revisited Underrepresented Characters in His Recent Work

Dragon Ball Super’s long hiatus ended with the release of chapter #104, “The Birth of Saiyaman X”,which focused on Trunks and the story of how he became obsessed with superheroes. While the entry didn’t further the narrative, which disappointed a section of the fan base, it built upon established lore and even revisited a few forgotten heroes of the past. One of those was Olibu, a student of King Kai and an anime-original character who appeared duringDragon Ball Z’s Otherworld Tournament arc.

While the future of the series remains uncertain, it seems Toyotarou is taking the time to revisit characters fromDragon Ball’s past, like Olibu and Gevo. With over 40 years of celebrated releases under its belt, the series has built up quite the collection of characters and settings ripe for development of any kind, and the most recent volume ofDragon Ball Supersuggests the manga’s creators haven’t forgotten about them. Fans are still waiting forconfirmation ofSuper’s full return, but until then, the latest volume is full of new content to check out.

Dragon Ball

From the creative mind of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a mega multimedia franchise that spans back to the 1980s. Dragon Ball expanded quickly, starting as a serialized manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. It made its way overseas via manga and an anime adaptation that is enjoyed worldwide. Dragon Ball was the initial starting animated series that followed the adventures of the young Son Goku as he sought after the Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
