Activision has issued a sweeping response to the ongoing complaints of widespread cheating inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6. More so than inpreviousCall of Dutygames, cheating has run rampant inBlack Ops 6. Almost every player claims to encounter cheating constantly, which is frustrating at best and downright unethical at worst. After months of calling for a fix, Activision has finally responded to players who express concerns overBlack Opscheating, offering a suite of new options and future updates to improve the cheating epidemic.

In the most recentCall of Dutycommunity update, Activision outlined a multipoint plan for the prevention of cheating inBlack Ops 6. On the player’s side, there’s a new, easy way to avoid encountering cheaters in online modes:players on PlayStation and Xbox consoles can now turn off crossplay with PC. Since cheating is more common among PC players, due to the relative ease of deploying cheats on the platform, this should prevent console players from encountering most cheaters. PC players, however, will have to come up with an alternate solution.

What Black Ops 6 Is Doing To Prevent Cheating

So that’s one potential solution, if not a one-size-fits all.Turning off crossplayis all well and good, but all that does is contain the problem in the PC player community - it doesn’t actually reduce the number of cheaters. Thankfully, that’s not all Activision is doing to address theBlack Ops 6cheating issues. It’s got quite a plan in place, and that begins withupdating its detection methods for common forms of cheating, like aim botting. Black Ops 6will also ramp up its reporting and banning system, in an effort to act more quickly on player reports. If players are repeatedly detected as queuing up and playing games with cheaters, their accounts may also be investigated. On the other side of the same coin, it’ll also improve its detection system for spam reporting, and start sending warning messages to players who engage in the practice.

More than 136,000 accounts have been banned from ranked play since the mode was added toBlack Ops 6.

Black Ops 6’santi-cheat systems will also see major upgrades in future seasons. First and foremost, its detection systems will be updated during Season Two, and it’ll receive a kernel-level driver update to help with finding cheaters. In Season Three, it’ll introduce an authentication system that separates legitimate players from cheaters, but elected to stay silent on how that system works until closer to Season Three’s launch.

A Long-Overdue Feature

But all those big changes aside, it’s clear console players have scored a big win here. Turning off crossplay will basically eliminate the cheating issue for players on consoles. It’ll also level the playing field for PlayStation and Xbox users- it’s long been known that, in first-person shooter games, players who use a mouse and keyboard have a major advantage over those who use controllers. Still, PC players will have to wait a little longer for their cheating fix, as the option to shut off crossplay won’t do anything for them. Thankfully, Activision has a long road ahead in its efforts to stop cheating inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6, and it’s these long-term changes that are most likely to put a permanent end to the issue.
