Spoilers are ahead for A Quiet Place: Day One’s ending.
Summary
A Quiet Place: Day Onereveals more about the sound-sensitive alien creatures at the franchise’s center, but one discovery in particular must pay off inA Quiet Place 3— or else it will feel wildly out of place. A prequel to John Krasinski’sA Quiet Placemovies,Day Onecenters on Sam (Lupita Nyong’o), a terminally ill and incredibly pessimistic New Yorker who finds herself in the middle of an alien invasion. After meteor-like objects fall from the sky, hostile extraterrestrial creatures devastate groups of onlookers, zoning in on prey with their acute sense of hearing.
Despite taking place earlier inA Quiet Place’s timeline, the prequel’s characters seem to learn more about the alien race than the franchise’s core characters. In addition to their ultrasonic hearing, the creatures inA Quiet Place: Day Oneseem unable to swim. InA Quiet Place 2, the alien creatures' originssuggest that the bulletproof, seemingly invulnerable entities evolved because of the harsh conditions on their home planet — a world without light or the need for sight. Expanding upon this lore,Day Onereveals that the aliens also produce eggs, though it doesn’t fully explain the biological function.

A Quiet Place: Day One Doesn’t Fully Explain The New Alien Eggs
In An Interview, The Film’s Director Clarified That The Pouches Are A Food Source
InA Quiet Place: Day One, the alien creatures that come to terrorize Earth in the original movies arrive via meteorites. However, that’s far from the most compelling facet of the creatures' origins or biology. During one sequence, Sam’s companion and fellow survivor, Eric (Joseph Quinn), scours a pharmacy for supplies. Frodo,A Quiet Place: Day One’s cat character, follows. Eventually, Frodo scampers off, prompting Eric to chase him. In a rather shocking reveal,Frodo leads Eric to an area where the aliens have congregated around several organic pouches. Although the pouches look like eggs, the aliens tear them apart.
The aliens in theA Quiet Placeuniverse fertilize these pouches with the bodies of the humans they kill…

Inside, the pouches are full of stringy organic material. Since Eric has to flee the scene rather quickly, the film doesn’t linger too much on the pouches or delve into their exact nature. AlthoughDay Onedoesn’t further explain thealiens' pouches in theA Quiet Placeseries, the film’sdirector, Michael Sarnoski, revealed the true nature of the sacs in an interview. According to the filmmaker, the aliens in theA Quiet Placeuniverse fertilize these pouches with the bodies of the humans they kill and then, later, ingest what’s inside the sacs (via/Film).
A Quiet Place’s New $245 Million Hit Helps Prove A Quiet Place 3 Can’t Be The End
A Quiet Place: Day One is a massive hit for the sci-fi/horror franchise, and it proves that A Quiet Place 3 can’t be the end of the series.
A Quiet Place 3 Has To Pay Off The Alien Egg Tease After Eric’s Fate
The Pouches In A Quiet Place: Day One Could Have Multiple Functions
Although Sam chooses to attract the aliens' attention at theending ofA Quiet Place: Day One, Eric and Frodo survive the whole ordeal and make it onto one of the boats. This all but confirms that Eric made it to the island. Since Eric is the only surviving character who has seen the alien “eggs,“it would be strange for Eric to ignore the existence of the pouches if he returns inA Quiet Place 3. If anything, Eric can reveal the existence of the alien sacs to his fellow survivors as the humans learn more about the extraterrestrials.
