Jamie and Claire’s story will come to a close with season 8, which is a heartbreaking truth for audiences to accept. However, it is already clear that the franchise as a whole won’t be ending here. Starz is all set up with the spinoffOutlander: Blood of My Blood, and author Diana Gabaldon still has another book in the works. There is plenty of room to expand theOutlanderfranchise, and season 7 has presented some exciting possibilities that Starz could eventually commit to.
Theending ofOutlanderseason 7saw Claire begin to suspect that her stillborn daughter, Faith, somehow survived. This hints that a lot of magic will be involved in season 8, but that’s far from all that happened in this installment. Roger, Brianna, and their children had exciting adventures all their own, with a surprising jump through time and an intriguing mystery. Lord John and William also went through a great deal of excitement in season 7, and all of this will have to be resolved inOutlanderseason 8. Still, with limited time left,some adventures may need to play out in their own spinoffs.
8Faith Pocock/Fraser’s Full Story
What Was Faith’s Life Like?
InOutlanderseason 7, episode 16,Claire overheard little Fanny Pocock singingthe song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” written and recorded in the early 20th century. The girl said she had learned the song from her mother, Faith, providing Claire with the most significant clue that her stillborn daughter had lived. Unfortunately, she may never get all the answers inOutlandersince there aren’t many who would know what really happened.
Whether or not Faith Pocock is Jamie and Claire’s daughter, she clearly has a story worth telling. Unfortunately, she is dead by the events ofOutlanderseason 7. The TV series may provide some answers, butit’s unlikely audiences will get a chance to really get to know Faith in season 8. Instead, this character’s whole story could be told in another spinoff. Faith must have traveled through time at some point, and this would certainly make for an intriguing series.
7A Full Lord John Grey Series
Diana Gabaldon’s Lord John Books Could Be Adapted
Perhaps the most requested spinoff amongOutlanderbook fans is a Lord John Grey series. This would be fairly easy to achieve since Gabaldon has already gotten the ball started with several spinoff novellas detailing this character’s upbringing and adventures. Unfortunately, nothing has come of this just yet in the way of an on screen adaptation. Still, the events ofOutlanderseason 7 hint that there could be something to the idea.
Outlander season 7 seemed to go out of its way to prove that Lord John could make an excellent hero.
Lord John has been an essential figure inOutlanderfor several seasons, but season 7 saw him placed in the middle of the most action.Screen audiences finally got to see this proper British loyalist get his hands dirtyas he attempted to survive capture, make a great escape, and, later, save William’s life.Outlanderseason 7 seemed to go out of its way to prove that Lord John could make an excellent hero. Once season 8 has come to a close, fans of this unique character may finally get what they have been begging for.
6A Master Raymond Prequel & Sequel Series
Master Raymond’s Story Stretches Back Thousands Of Years
Another exciting feature ofOutlanderseason 7 was the return of Master Raymond. Claire met this mysterious man in season 2 while she and Jamie were living in France. It was clear that he possessed a strange sort of power, and Master Raymond and Claire seemed to be linked by destiny. The events of season 7 prove that this is true. Master Raymond is a key part of Claire’s story—but there is far more to him than just that.
TheOutlanderbooks imply that Master Raymond is Claire and Geillis' ancestor and the reason these characters are able to time travel.
Diana Gabaldon’sOutlanderbooks reveal that Master Raymondis a prehistoric time traveler. He is perhaps the first of his kind, originating around 500 BC. His full story would be lengthy and full of adventures.Master Raymond is a sort of mysterious and powerful puppet master, and this fact is likely to come into play inOutlanderseason 8. Still, season 7 proves that a more expansive story here would be possible.
5A Series Following The Murray Family
Ian Murray was Jamie’s best friend growing up, and he ultimately became family when he married Jenny Fraser. They went on to have seven children, several of whom are essential to the story ofOutlander. Season 7 introduced the adult version of Ian and Jenny’s second son, Michael, who agreed to take Laoghaire’s daughter Jane to France to begin her journey to becoming a nun. As it is,this exact story is the foundation of Gabaldon’sOutlanderspinoff novel,The Space Between.
Michael and Jane’s story could certainly serve as an impactful spinoff TV show.Outlanderseason 7 perfectly sets this up by introducing these characters and putting them on their path to France. Still, it would also be interesting to see a series based around Ian Murray Sr. himself. Perhaps a TV show that jumps between the various members of the Murray family, past and present, would be the perfect compromise.
4A Jerry MacKenzie Miniseries Spinoff
What Really Happened To Roger’s Father?
Outlanderseason 7 saw Roger accidentally travel to 1739 and unexpectedly discover that his father, Jerry MacKenzie, whom he believed died when his plane crashed in World War II, had somehow found his way to the past. Roger helped the man get back through the stones to the 20th century, but he was unsure whether Jerry had made it through. The ending of season 7 saw Roger accept that he may never know the truth.
A new story that follows Jerry as he begins his family, leaves for war, and ends up on a surprising adventure through time and space could provide all the heartbreaking answers.
While it can be hoped that Roger could somehow learn what happened to his father inOutlanderseason 8, this may genuinely be where the central series leaves the tale. Thankfully,Gabaldon’sOutlanderbooksreveal that Jerry really did make it to the 20th century, andhe found his son just in time to sacrifice his own life to save him during the London Blitz. Roger never knew who had saved him from the collapsing tunnel that killed his mother. However, a new story that follows Jerry as he begins his family, leaves for war, and ends up on a surprising adventure through time and space could provide all the heartbreaking answers.
3A Young Ian Spinoff Series
Young Ian Murray is the youngest of Ian and Jenny’s children, and he has become the most prominent member of the family in theOutlanderTV show. Though the central series spends a lot of time on Young Ian’s story, a great deal of his adventures happen off-screen. The boy spent a significant amount of time living among the Mohawk, and as ofOutlanderseason 7, he is a scout for the Continental Army.
Outlanderseason 7 sees Ian marry Rachel Hunter, andthe finale reveals they have a baby on the way. Unfortunately, with only one season left, there won’t be much time to really flesh out Ian’s full story. This is where a spinoff TV show could come in. A Young Ian series could jump between his present life as a father, husband, and scout to his past as a member of the Mohawk Nation.
2A Jemmy & Mandy Time Travel Series
Brianna & Roger’s Powerful Children
Jemmy and Mandy areOutlander’s next generation of time travelers and are the most powerful yet. As the children of Brianna and Roger,they seem to have inherited double the magical ability. They share a unique psychic connection with not only each other but the standing stones, too. Overall, it’s clear they are something special, but this is something thatOutlanderhas yet to really flesh out.
Outlander’s Spinoff Series Needs To Add These 2 Characters To Make Any Sense
Outlander’s spinoff series, Blood of My Blood, is on its way, and while the so-far teased characters are exciting, they might not be enough.
Outlanderseason 7 demonstrated the most of any other season just how powerful Jemmy and Mandy are. If it wasn’t for Brianna’s daughter, she might never have found her son after Rob Cameron kidnapped the boy. Additionally, Mandy was the one who led her mother through the stones to 1739 after she sensed Roger there. Perhaps, onceOutlanderseason 8 wraps up,a spinoff series following an adult Jemmy and Mandy jumping through time could come next.
1Geillis Duncan’s Full Outlander Adventures
There’s So Much More To Geillis' Story
Geilis Duncan has long been among the more intriguing characters ofOutlander. She started out as Claire’s friend and even sacrificed herself to save her. However, Geillis is also a touch evil, and Claire was forced to kill the woman with a machete to protect Brianna from her. Despite all this, Geillis' return inOutlanderseason 7 was deeply exciting. It’s clearthere are parts of her story that audiences don’t yet know, and a spinoff could begin to dive in a little deeper.
Geillis' primary goal inOutlanderis to put a Scot on the throne, and she discovered a prophecy that was key in achieving this. It was foretold that her goal would be achieved once a 200-year-old baby was killed, and Geillis came to the conclusion that the prophecy referred to Brianna. After Claire killed Geillis, this prophecy was essentially forgotten. It’s a massive loose end that Geillis' appearance inOutlanderseason 7 brought back to the surface, teasing the perfect opportunity for a great spinoff.
