In most shōnen anime, characters like Kokichi Muta are often given a second chance to atone for their wrongdoings. However, inJujutsu Kaisen, Kokichi pays the ultimate price with his life. Many viewers expected him to find redemption, but the anime subverts this expectation by killing him off, which was only a tease for what was to be followed later in this season.

Jujutsu Kaisen Is NOT the Best Modern Shonen (It’s a Lot More)

Through characters like Gojo Satoru and Itadori Yuji, Jujutsu Kaisen explores controversial themes with an unmatched depth and intelligence.

7Haruta Losing His Chance

Episode #41, “Thunderclap, Part 2”

Among the manyvillains featured in this season ofJujutsu Kaisen, Haruta Shigemo stands out as one of the most bizarre. Unlike others, Shigemo seems to have no deeper motive beyond tormenting those weaker than him, driven purely by sadistic pleasure. His backstory and the reasons behind his behavior remain unexplored, making it all the more satisfying when he gets beaten up by Nanami. After surviving the encounter with Nanami – thanks to sheer luck – Shigemo continues his twisted ways by tormenting the weak and, unluckily, his new target became Megumi.

Megumi, on the verge of death, summons Mahoraga, who could have easily been the cause of Haruta’s demise. However, Haruta is spared when Sukuna intervenes, eager to fight Mahoraga himself. Given Haruta’s uncanny luck and the miracles that seem to favor him due to his cursed technique, it seemed certain that he would survive yet again. 6Yu Haibara’s Death is Shockingly Meaningless

Episode #29, “Premature Death”

In the flashback ofGeto Suguru’s descent to the dark side, the story introduces a cheerful character named Yu Haibara, a close friend and classmate of Nanami. Yu Haibara is what one would expect for a character to die soon; a cheerful person who is always trying to encourage others around him. Despite his positive attitude, Haibara’s abilities are not particularly remarkable. This lack of strength ultimately leads him and Nanami into a perilous situation where Haibara tragically meets his end.

The most surprising aspect of Haibara’s death, even though viewers might have anticipated it, was the stark reminder of how meaningless life can seem in the world of Jujutsu sorcerers. His death wasn’t a grand sacrifice or a heroic moment; it was simply a tragic loss that underscored the harsh realityof the Jujutsu business. This moment serves as a wake-up call not only for the viewers but also for Geto, who begins to question the purpose of fighting cursed spirits day after day.

5Hanami Being Crushed Until They Are Completely Obliterated

Episode #33, “The Shibuya Incident - Gate Open”

All the efforts that villains put into the Shibuya Incident plans were primarily focused on sealing Gojo inside the prison realm, and although they succeeded, it came with many losses. One of the first casualties from the main group of villains was Hanami, the cursed spirit known forholding their own against the formidable duo of Yuji and Todo. Desperate to corner Gojo, Hanami and the other villains took increasingly reckless actions, and even saw Hanami jump head-on to fight the strongest sorcerer.

However, the strongest sorcerer proved to be even more formidable than anyone presumed and pushed Hanami against the wall until Hanami was crushed. The most surprising aspect of this scene wasn’t Hanami’s inevitable death, but rather how the Gojo enjoyed pushing the cursed spirit to death, hinting at the strongest sorcerer’s unsettling and evil side.

Jujutsu Kaisen Proves Gojo Was Never a Hero With One Brutal Moment

Gojo Satoru has always been a dark character but the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen shows he was never a hero after all.

4Jogo’s Made It Seem As Though He Was Unstoppable

Episode #40, “Thunderclap”

Despite being one of theseries' strongest characters, Jogo, the volcanic cursed spirit, never seemed like he was a strong character due to his unfortunate matchups against arguably the two most powerful beings to ever exist. Despite his strength, Jogo was constantly overshadowed, surviving his first encounter with Gojo in Season 1 through sheer luck, and later barely escaping again during the desperate attempt to seal the sorcerer. However, much like Haruta, Jogo’s luck finally ran out when he faced Sukuna.

Sukuna’s arrival during the Shibuya Incident immediately set the stage for one of the most epic battles, pitting Jogo against the King of Curses with Shibuya as their battleground. As a devoted follower of Sukuna, Jogo had long dreamed of reviving the King of Curses and serving him faithfully. Given his loyalty and strength, Jogo might have made a formidable henchman for Sukuna. However, in a surprising and ruthless twist,Sukuna chose to kill Jogo simply because it felt right to him at the time.

3Mahito Seemed He Would Live on To Become One of the Major Antagonists of the Series

Episode #46, “Transformation, Part 2”

Mahito’s defeat is by far one of the most, if not the most, satisfactory aspects in the crusade ofJujutsu Kaisenseason 2. However, his death came as a shocking and unexpected twist. As a cunning and sadistic antagonist,Mahito seemed perfectly positioned to become the series' final villainto anime only fans. Therefore, it was all the more surprising when Mahito was ultimately killed, not by Yuji Itadori, or the other sorcerers, but by his allies.

Yuji and Todo’s iconic duo led to the villain’s defeat, with Mahito at his lowest, desperately begging for his life as Yuji cornered the cursed spirit. However, just when it seemed Mahito might be saved by the timely arrival of the fake Geto, a shocking twist unfolded—Geto turned Mahito into one of his tools. This pivotal moment is a testament to howJujutsu Kaisenis a muchmore complex shōnen series than the others from the samedemographic.

2Kento Nanami’s Death Is a Tragedy That No One Can Ever Come To Terms With

Episode #42, “Right and Wrong”

Some characters in fiction, especially in the Shōnen series, are crafted to support the protagonist in achieving their goals, and Kento Nanami is a prime example of this archetype.Characters like Nanami often seem to have plot armor, and having already survived two perilous situations, his death was unexpected. However, Kento Nanami ultimately met his end at the hands of a character who, surprisingly, was both the last and first-person fans would have expected.

Kento Nanami’s death is yet another testament to the complexity ofJujutsu Kaisenand reveals just how brutal the series can be. Nanami was a pivotal figure in Yuji’s development and had he survived, it’s easy to imagine him continuing to mentor Yuji and helping him reach even greater heights.

10 Most Brutal Jujutsu Kaisen Deaths

Jujutsu Kaisen has featured a lot of very devastating deaths over the course of the series, but these ten are the most brutal the manga has featured.

1Nobara’s Death Is An Unexpected Twist That No One Could Ever Anticipate or Comprehend

Episode #43, “Right and Wrong, Part 2”

Crafted as the central heroine of theJujutsu Kaisenseries, Nobara was destined to become one of the most formidable characters of the series and presumably thestrongest female character of the series. However, in a shocking twist in season 2, Nobara meets her end. Her battle against Mahito began impressively, rekindling the iconic duo of Nobara and Yuji.

Given that fans had recently witnessed Nanami’s death, it seemed certain that Nobara and Yuji would seek to avenge their beloved comrade. However,Nobara is killed when Mahito touches her faceand uses his idle transfiguration technique. From the series' commencement, it was evident that Nobara, being the only primary female character, would have the biggest plot armor after Yuji and Megumi, and thus, her death inJujutsu Kaisenseason 2 is one of the most shocking things of the series that fans have a hard time coming to terms with.
