Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrailis meant to be the beginning of the next large narrative arc, much likeA Realm Rebornstarted the Hydaelyn and Zodiark arc. The story ofDawntrailwon’t be officially finished until about 7.3, butthere’s already a lot of speculation about where the arc could lead the Warrior of Light and their companions next. Recent interviews about the game’s future have only added to the possibilities of what might be next for the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.

Naturally, Yoshi-P and his team haven’t given away any direct information about the next journey for the Warrior of Light. However, the universe ofFinal Fantasy 14is designed in a way where even ideas that seem far-fetched could be possible. This set of ten includes both the likely and unlikely when looking at potential future directions the game might take.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail: An Expectation That Still Surprises

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is a change of pace for the popular MMO, but it’s a refreshing expansion at this point in its decade-long lifespan.

10The Warrior Could Travel To Other Reflections

Using The Key To Opening More Locations

By the end ofDawntrail, the Warrior of Light has the key that Sphene wanted to use to hop dimensions in their possession. Because of this, it seemslikely that it’ll be used to travel between Reflections in future content, opening up more locations beyond the Source, the First, and the Void. It also seems to be capable of moving entire cities between Reflections, which is assumed to be how Alexandria ended up on the Source.

The Queen Eternal Arrives in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail with an imposing pose

The Warrior of Light traveling between Reflections isn’t new. However, if they use the key to move an entire city across Reflections, that could have huge implications for the Source moving forward. Sinceit’s unlikely that any of the Scions know how the key functions, it’s entirely possible that they could shift a city to a different Reflection without meaning to, and that could be disastrous.

9Sphene Uses Her Crown To Return

As Memories Stored Inside Of It

The exact nature of Endless Sphene’s crown isn’t known, but the primary speculation is that it’s her regulator. This would mean that her memories are stored inside it, andshe could be recreated as an endless againsince she wasn’t deleted like everybody else in Living Memory. Considering the focus on the crown after the credits, this seems like a strong possibility for future content.

FF14: How To Beat Queen Eternal (Boss Guide)

The Queen Eternal is the boss Trial in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. This fight is at maxed level, requiring you to understand your full kit.

It doesn’t help that Wuk Lamat and the Warrior of Light basically overthrew Alexandria’s queen and replaced her with a child. Given how sad the citizens are at her loss and how much they didn’t like Zoraal Ja, their new king’s father,Sphene would have no problem finding support if she returns. The dead don’t always stay dead inFFXIV, and Sphene was already just memories given form, so she could return repeatedly until her crown is destroyed, assuming that’s where her memories are stored.

8Solution Nine Could Stage A Rebellion

Against The New King Who Doesn’t Want To Rule

This is another option that feels particularly likely, given the current circumstances in Alexandria. They lost the only queen they’d had for centuries, and she truly cared about her people. To add insult to injury, their new king is a child who doesn’t want to rule but is convinced by Wuk Lamat that he should hold onto the power. As his guardian, she essentially becomes the regent of Alexandria because of his age.

There would certainly be a lot of difficulties that come with attempting this, especially since Gulool Ja holds all the military power in the city, but it would be a good way to punish Wuk Lamat’s ideals.

Considering these factors,it wouldn’t be surprising for the citizens of Solution Nine to rebelagainst Gulool Ja and Wuk Lamat. There would certainly be a lot of difficulties that come with attempting this, especially since Gulool Ja holds all the military power in the city, but it would be a good way to punish Wuk Lamat’s ideals. So far, her actions haven’t had that many negative consequences to force her to grow into a wise leader, and this would be an interesting way to do that.

7The Warrior Of Light Can Join The War In Hingashi

Explore The Continent Locked Behind The Gate

While the Warrior of Light spends time in Kugane during the events ofStormblood, they don’t see the entirety of this location. This is becausepart of the continent is locked behind a gate, and that section is in the middle of a war. WithDawntrailtrying to scale back from world-ending threats like the Endsinger, an average war could be a possible plot point in the future to stick with that theme.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the Warrior of Light placed themselves in the middle of a war. This happened inHeavenswardwith the Dragonsong War, inStormbloodagainst the Garleans, and inShadowbringerswith the ongoing fight against the Sin Eaters. In both cases, the side that the Warrior of Light joined ended up winningthe war. Adding another war to that list wouldn’t feel that out of place, and it would give the Scions more time to explore a place they didn’t fully see in the past.

6Meracydia Is Still Unexplored

Would Work Great In An Expansion

Like the City of Gold and the identities of the Twelve,Meracydia is listed by Emet-Selch as a place the Warrior of Light should explorenow that Etheirys is no longer in danger of being wiped out by the Final Days. The scene where he gives the Warrior a to-do list feels like a roadmap for the future. In that case, Meracydia needs to be included in either the patches of an expansion or receive its own expansion.

How To Change A Retainer’s Job In FF14

While Retainers can have their base classes reset for free, players must fulfill two specific requirements to change their Retainer’s job in FFXIV.

Meracydia is a particularly interesting future possibility. It’s been mentioned now and again, even as early asA Realm Reborn, yetit’s never been included as a location that the Warrior is able to visit. With a history of war, it’s possible that Meracydia isn’t in the best state for its citizens to thrive, and the Warrior could potentially be able to help them to an extent.

5Meteion Allowed Life To Begin On Other Planets Again

New Planets Would Bring Whole New Possibilities

Since the Scions have access to a spaceship and pilots, the planets that Meteion allowed life to start again on could be locations the Warrior visits in the future.Time doesn’t move the same way in theFFXIVuniverse as it does in real life, and that makes this possibility more likely than it would be otherwise. Plus,Final Fantasygames historically blend fantasy and sci-fi, and space travel definitely falls in the sci-fi category.

Going this route allows for planets to essentially restart the game, but without actually restarting it and forcing the Warrior to lose all previous progress.

Adding in new planets would also create an infinite potential for future content by extension.Every planet could have its own set of expansions dedicated to it, and that could be substantial given how many expansions of content Etheirys has, and that’s still increasing. Going this route allows for planets to essentially restart the game, but without actually restarting it and forcing the Warrior to lose all previous progress.

4The Area Around Werlyt Is Unexplored

The Warrior Could Help Rebuild Their Home Planet

Sorrows of Werlyt is aset of side contentthat takes place in a Garlean city, but it’s easy to miss and isolated from the other sections of Garlemald seen inEndwalker. It shows how much of Etheirys has yet to be explored by the Warrior of Light, and not every story has to include a threat that could end the world. Instead, the Warrior could help rebuild areas of their home planet.

Werlyt is the stage for a story about a set of children adopted by Gaius, who then fought to be recognized in a society that favored Galeans. It would be believable that they aren’t the only group that struggled under Garlean rule, and now the Garleans have had to accept help from Eorzea due to the events ofEndwalker. Because of this, it opens up the potential for the Warrior to return and help this section of Garlemald as conditions have improved in other areas.

3The Warrior Of Light Travels To The Past

Exploring Historic Moments

Technically, this has been done already, but it wouldn’t be that surprising if the Warrior of Light ended up traveling to the past again. It would be unlikely that they would go to the time of the Ancients again, butEtheirys has such a long history that there are plenty of options. This route would also open up the chance for the Warrior to see the Allagans at the height of their civilization or as they fell into ruins.

The rule inEndwalkerwas thatthe Warrior had to prevent the past from changing. They were meant to be an observer and nothing more, but even that was enough to create an interesting zone that was fun to explore. So, if those rules were put in place once again, the Warrior could have plenty to do in the past without working to change the future.

2The Warrior Of Light Travels To The Future

Time Travelling To A Different Path

Heading into the future would be a different path for the Warrior to take, and it would be the perfect option if the developers wanted to focus on just the Warrior for an expansion, as itgives them a reason to leave other characters behind. It could also be a chance to set up more content by letting the Warrior see a possible future, then return and work to prevent it. Time travel might be a messy choice in stories, but it’s also a choice that brings a lot of potential.

FF14 Dawntrail: How To Unlock The Viper Job

Viper is the newest melee job in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail. It is easy to unlock, but begins two expansions behind in levels and equipment.

Time travel is already established as a possibility inFFXIV, so it’s well within the scope of what the game has included in the past. It also opens up chances for the Warrior to interact with the future since they wouldn’t need to worry about changing their present time like with the past. Alternatively, it could be the vacation that the Warrior was promised inDawntrailbut never got to experience.

1The Warrior Could Explore Alternate Timelines

Multiple Possibilities

In theory, alternate timelines already exist inFFXIV. This is because of G’raha Tia’s actions inShadowbringerswhere he woke up in the future, experienced the Eighth Calamity, and teleported the Crystal Tower to the first in an attempt to go back and fix everything. By this logic, there should still be a timeline where the Warrior and Scions die during the Calamity, sinceG’raha’s actions would’ve created a branching timeline.

Again, timelines and time travel are messy to deal with in stories, buthandling them well can be highly impactful. It’s a risk and one that’s already been taken by developers in the past. Because of this, it could definitely be a concept considered for upcoming expansions, along with the potential paradoxes that can come with alternate timelines and moving between the past and the future.

It might be a decade old, butFFXIVis nowhere near being low on content. As long as Square Enix is willing to fund the game, it could continue pumping out expansions indefinitely. However, there are certain directions that the story is more likely to take followingFinal Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail.
