Once Humanis a survival game requiring Meta-humans to survive in a strange, post-apocalyptic world. Not only are there terrifyingly strong monsters and rival factions around every corner, but players must also manage their hunger and thirst. Thankfully, there are many different ways to power up for the dangerous trials ahead, including growing crops and cooking.

In order to thrive, players should consider taking up farming. Not only can crops be used as food or drinks to provide powerful buffs, but they can also be used to craft necessary supplies for their journey. Here are some of the best crops to consider for your garden and a few important recipes that use them.

Tending a farm in Once Human with Morel growing

How To Get Morel Seeds In Once Human

Morels are valuable items for making cooked food in Once Human. However, they don’t grow in the wild and must be gardened with time and care.

Beets

Easily found along waterways, especially the shallow rivers near Deadsville and Meyer’s Market. Can also be found in gardens inside of strongholds.

Beets are most important for their ability to berefined into Sugar, a pantry item that never expires but is used in many recipes.Sanity Pills, for example, are an important early game supply to heal sanity damage. This sugar can also be used in other sweet treats, such as theStardust Energy Drink, which provides players with the double jump ability, andShattered Bread, which increases all damage by 25%.

Beets, one of the crops in Once Human.

If you are using a Weakspot build, you definitely won’t want to sleep onAssorted Canned Fruit, which provides an additional 25% Weakspot Damage when Sanity is above 80%.

Unfortunately, Coconuts, which are required for Assorted Canned Fruit, cannot be grown in your garden. However, in coastal regions such as Dayton Wetlands and Broken Delta, you will be able to findCoconut Palms, a specific palm tree that also yields Coconuts when chopped down.

Corn, one of the crops in Once Human.

Corn

Found scattered in most grassy and forested areas. Scattered around farms such as Citrus County. Can also be found in and around strongholds, such as Meyer’s Market.

Similar to beets, corn can also be refined intoCorn Oil, another staple item that functions as an ingredient in other recipes. Corn oil is another ingredient alongside beets for the Shattered Bread recipe, but it is also needed forCanned Seafood in Oil. This dish is especially useful for players looking to gather ore, such astungsten ore in Red Sands, by granting a chance to get 66%, 666%, or even 6666% yield bonus while mining.

Once Human Wheat Crop in Garden

Using a brewing barrel, players can ferment corn intoCorn Ale, a drink that eliminates the Sanity drop while active. Alternatively, usingDeviated Corninstead producesStardust Corn Ale, a different drink that increases the action speed of players.

Wheat

Primarily found on farms and sometimes along roads. Citrus County in Dayton Wetlands is surrounded by wheat fields and hay bales.

Wheat is also a simple crop found early on in fields and along roads. Unlike beets and corn, it does not need to be refined for any of its main recipes. Similar to corn, wheat can also be used in a brewing barrel, where it will be brewed intoMalt Ale. Like Corn Ale, Malt Ale also eliminates Sanity drop for its duration. For players needing to go on long excursions,Hug-in-a-Bowlwill fill your thirst and hunger at 100%. Lastly,Deviated Wheatcan be used to cookCroquettes, an item meant to be sold rather than eaten, valued at 2000 Energy Links.

Scarlet Calamus, a crop in Once Human.

Wheat plants look very similar to other tall grasses and reeds, which makes them difficult to spot in the wild. If you’re struggling to find some,Citrus Countyhas guaranteed spawns of wheat that are easier to see in the fields.

Mushrooms

Found in the underbrush of wooded areas in Iron River, especially near Blueberry Bushes

Mushrooms are especially important when trying to produce many crops at once, and mixing mushrooms with fertilizers creates the Yield Boost fertilizer, vastly increasing yield once the plant is mature. With the addition of Stardust Source to the mix, you can instead craft Mutation Boost fertilizer, whichincreases the chance that a crop will become Deviatedonce grown. Fertilizers should be crafted at the Supply Bench instead of the Stove.

Peppercorn Crop in Once Human

Deviated Cropsare produced by random chance and are not guaranteed while farming. Many of the higher-tier recipes require the Deviated variants of crops. To increase the odds of getting Deviated crops, considerfinding a Buzzy Bee Deviationto help out. They can be found around farms, especially in earlier settlements like Citrus County and Sutherland Family Orchards, andwill increase production and mutation chances of your crops.

Found along most waterways in the shallows

Cucumber Crop in Once Human

Scarlet Calamus is highly underrated and extremely useful when tending to a garden of difficult-to-obtain crops. Scarlet Calamus can be used to craft Breeding Boost fertilizer, whichboosts crop fertility by increasing seed yieldwhen the crop is harvested. This is especially important for crops that are restricted by weekly seed purchases, such as Onions or Cucumbers, as there isno way to obtain more seedsif you run out until the week resets.

Though Scarlet Calamus is not difficult to find along the water, it can be much faster to farm it using basic or yield boost fertilizer tospeed up your production of rare crops.

Onion Crop in Once Human

Lacey, Blackfell’s Energy Link vendor (Limit three seeds/week)

Peppercorns are one of the harder crops to find due to their limited nature. Crops like these can only be found by purchasing seeds from vendors, but there is amaximum cap of three seeds per week.

Morel Crop in Once Human

One of the most worthwhile dishes is thePreserved Deviated Chopsrecipe, which grants a buff called Hunter’s Luck. This increases Acid gained from killing enemies by an additional +50%.Securement Soup, requiring a Deviated peppercorn, also provides high utility by significantly increasing the odds of capturing deviations, such as the Buzzy Bee, and increasing your capture ability. This dish is perfect for times when you find a rare Deviation that has a low percent capture chance.

In the early game, it may seem like Acid is easy to come by. However, by late game, you will be using up hundreds of Acid in order to refine higher-level materials. Outside offarming for acid by refining polluted water, eating Preserved Deviated Chops before completing missions and Silos is an excellent way to stay topped up.

Cucumbers are another restricted crop with a limited purchase amount per week. Rather than refining cucumbers by cooking them at a stove, you can insteadpop them into a Brew Barrelto createPickles. These pickles are another ingredient in theSecurement Souprecipe for Deviation capture. Players on PvP servers will want tocook up someSafety Sandwichesbefore heading out to PvP events in the frontier, and will need Deviated cucumbers to do so. A Safety Sandwich provides a significant damage reduction buff from other players, lowering damage taken by 20%!

Onions

Emma Potter, Tall Grass Inn’s Energy Link vendor (Limit three seeds/week)

Like other hard-to-find crops, Onions must be purchased at stronghold vendors with a maximum of three seeds per week. They are also needed in the high-pricedCroquetterecipe. For players looking to mine and log as efficiently as possible, cooking up aBacon Burgerwill help make quick work of any ore node or tree.

Besides two cucumbers and two tomatoes, you will also need a Deviated onion to cook this recipe. The dish provides a buff called One-Hit, which makes mining and logging only require a single hit! Lastly, while not a recipe, harvesting Deviated onions is the only way to obtain theGrumpy Bulb, which is a combat Deviation. Grumpy Bulbs are effective during combat by drawing aggro of enemies once tossed.

When eating a Bacon Burger to increase gathering speed, you may want to have items to help with your carry weight. Be sure to either have aFeatherweight Whim Potionon hand, which reduces item weight, orStardust Pumpkin Soup, which increases your max load by 50%. Alternatively, summon your ATV or Sportscar to store your heaviest items until you return home.

Randomly droppedfrom containers in high-level areas (level 35+)

Morels are obtained a bit differently than the previous crops, and unfortunately, they do not have a guaranteed purchase or spawn location. Instead, you’ll need to open containers in higher leveled areas, such as Chalk Peak and further, for a random chance of obtaining their seeds.

Morels are a great way to obtain currencies and materials, as they are the other primary ingredient of the Canned Seafood in Oil mining luck dish. They also are used inBorscht Deluxe, a dish that doubles the Energy Link currencies earned from opening crates, andYuanbao Dumplings, which need Deviated morels to create a dish worth 10,000 Energy Links.

Found rarelythroughout the Red Sands and Blackheart regions

Last on our list is the elusive Aloe Vera, one of the hardest crops to find. Like morels, they cannot be purchased from stronghold vendors. However, they can be found in the wild, primarily in the Blackheart region. Try the Northwest corner of Blackheart, near the river, but be aware that they look very similar to Saffron from a distance.

Aloe vera is used in the refreshing drinkSignature Ice Brew, which increases your pollution resistance by +30% and recovers Sanity automatically when out of combat. It can also be used at the Supply Bench to craftAloe Vera Ointment, a consumable that restores 6HP per second until receiving damage. Lastly, its Deviated form is the final ingredient for theShattered Breadrecipe inOnce Human, increasing weapon damage by 25%.

Morels and Aloe Vera are considerably more difficult to find than other crops due to their randomized nature. It’s highly recommended to use theBreeding Boost fertilizerwhen growing these crops until you have a comfortable amount of seeds built up.
